Winter Camporee - January 2010

The 2010 Annual Wagon Wheel District Winter Camporee was held at Camp Wakonda on
January 22-24. The theme was the BSA 100-Year Celebration, and the events were:
Unique Fire Building Competition, Semaphore/Morse Code, Animal-print Plaster-cast,
Orienteering (Map reading), Plant Identification, Canyon Crossing (via “rope bridge”),
Ice fishing, Sled race (build your own sled), and Scavenger hunt. Lunch was potato
chowder and chicken soup, and also included what every winter camp should have - lots
of hot chocolate! We enjoyed every moment! During free time between our Troops events
we built a snow sculpture of Jeff being eaten by a snow shark (as you can see in some
of the pictures below). We all had a blast camping in tents at the 2010 Winter Camporee!!!

Isaac tries to get his team across

Gabe, Peter, and Jeff are waiting

Everyone is preparing to go across

Troop 231 is ready to go

Time to start going across the Canyon

Gabe is upside down on the rope-bridge

Gabe is trying to get his foot up

Peter is waiting patiently

Peter has fallen off the rope-bridge

Jeff is ready to cross, he is excited

Jeff is trying not to fall

Ben is trying to beat the clock

Our second scout goes across

Everyone is building a snow sculpture

Jeff is buried under snow

What should our sculpture be?

The sculpture might be a jaw

It's an animal for sure

It looks like a monster

Oh, it's a run away snow shark

Jeff looks scared to death

The snow shark looks angry

Removing the snow shark sculpture

Troop 231 practicing for the sled race

Everyone is helping get Jeff up the hill

Jeff looks relaxed now
