Historical Pictures From The 1960s
These pictures, and the captions that accompany them, were graciously
provided by Mr. Robbert Hopper, Council Executive of Mid-Iowa Council.
Bob's father, Thurman Hopper, was the Scoutmaster of Troop 231 at the time,
and Bob and his two older brothers, Al and Dave were Scouts in the Troop.
Both Al and Dave earned their Eagles while they were members of Troop 231,
but the family moved before Bob was able to earn his Eagle.

(R-L) Thurman Hopper, Troop 231 Scoutmaster, receives a training award from
the Covered Wagon Council (pre-merger with Council Bluffs). Next is Thurman's
wife Ann Hopper, and Thurman and Ann's oldest son, Al. The gentleman on the
left is unknown. Circa early 60's.

The Hopper Family
(L-R) Dave, Thurman, Bob, Ann, Al Hopper. Thurman and Al are wearing their patches
and neckerchiefs for the 1964 National Jamboree. Note the Region 8 neckerchief
slides. Taken on Offutt AFB. Circa 1964.

This picture shows a staged Tenderfoot Investiture Ceremony for three Scouts,
following a Court of Honor at Ft. Crook Elementary School. Robert Hopper is the
Scout in uniform – note the Tenderfoot badges are pinned on upside down and all
of the new Tenderfoot Scouts are holding their new Purple & White Troop neckerchiefs
(which were the origiinal colors of the old Bellevue High School - now Bellevue East).
During this Court of Honor, Robert's brother David received his Eagle Badge. The
adult in front of the three Tenderfoot Scouts is believed to be Sgt. Saigon,
Assistant Scoutmaster. Circa February-March 1967.
