JOTA & THOR - Oct 2010

For the celebration of the 100th Anniversay of Scouting, the Bellevue Amateur Radio
Club hosted the BSA National Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) for the Scouts in Troop 231,
on October 16, 2010, in conjunction with the monthy rocket launch of The Heartland
Organization of Rocketry (THOR) at the THOR Launch site, 8 miles east of Pickrell,
Nebraska. Scouts were able to make contact with several other JOTA sites across the
United States while using the ham radios provided by members of the Bellevue Amateur
Radio Club, and with the help of THOR members they were also able to launch at least
one rocket and participate in the launch of several others. Scouts who attended this
joint event thought it was a wonderful learning experience, and they all had fun!
